Editing/Copy-editing

An editing round is essential if you want your translated text to read as the original and to make style and terminology consistent.

I will analyze and correct the translated text using a multi-stage process, reviewing terminology, content and providing in-depth recommendations when necessary. During this stage, I will check the accuracy, consistency and style of the translation against the source text.

I will make comments, suggestions and corrections directly into your translated document. Unless otherwise stated, I will use the “Track change” tool in Microsoft Word. In this way, it will be easier for you or the translator to identify, implement or refuse the recommended amendments.

Proofing

It always pays to get a second pair of eyes on the job!

Proofing is the final stage of the reviewing process before delivery. That is why it is as valuable as translation.

Unlike the editing phase, the target text is not compared to the source text (except in case of doubts and if errors are pointed out).

The target text is scanned for typing errors, inconsistencies in layout and font, incorrect page breaks, captions, missing text etc. that slipped through previous stages of the translation process. The aim here is to check the correctness and the organization of the translated text in its final layout.
